Okay guys, here’s something new I’m doing. I’m going to be focusing on current happenings in the FGC. This will allow me to cover more topics and more games. On this inaugural FGC mid-week recap, we’ll talk about The KI Cup tea bagging, Injustice 2 game play footage and beta footage, EVO game announcements and Savage Series results.
KI Cup Tea-bagging Ban Controversey
Yesterday I wrote an article about the KI Cup Tea-bagging ban controversy on Monday. Because a member on a KI Facebook group threatened to cause violence to a player who tea-bagged or taunted, the ban was reinforced. However, as of Tuesday evening the ban was lifted and KI players are able to tea bag to their hearts content. KI World Cup administrator Brandon Alexander made it clear however they would not tolerate threats of violence.
Personally, I see this a good sign of things to come. Hopefully though, we don’t get such a knee jerk reaction like that again. Perhaps maybe some community guidelines should be created so if a similar situation occurs in the future there will be a swift punishment to the player and not to the entire community.
Injustice 2 Gameplay Footage, Robin Trailer, and Beta Keys
NRS unveiled gameplay footage of Injustice 2 on their twitch stream yesterday. The stream showcased nearly an hours worth of Injustice 2. If you are interested in watching the VOD here you go.
The Robin trailer was also revealed yesterday. This Robin is actually Damien Wayne a.k.a Batman’s biological son. If you aren’t too keen on DC comics I recommend you check out the back story behind Batman’s biological son. It’s…interesting to say the least. Anyway, Robin uses a sword and some high tech gear from his pop combined with some sick acrobatics and the result is one pretty interesting fighting style.
So far there is no say on if Dick Greyson, previous Robin turned Nightwing, will also be in Injustice 2. For now we have sword wielding Damien Wayne to beg for in the beta which leads me to talk about the beta.
After the NRS stream, beta keys have started going out to those who have registered for them. So far only four characters are playable in the beta. Superman, Supergirl, Batman, and Atrocitus. The keys are being released in waves so if you have registered for your beta key and haven’t gotten it don’t worry, your time is coming up. For those of you who haven’t registered use the link below to get in on the action before Injustice 2 drops. According to the few people with beta keys, the net-code is amazing by the way.
EVO Game Announcement
Yesterday was a huge day for the FGC. Yesterday was also the day the games for EVO was announced. The line up includes Street Fighter 5, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Smash Bros, Smash Melee, Injustice 2, BlazBlue Central Fiction, Tekken 7, King of Fighters 14, and a final game will be selected based on fan vote.
The fan vote is actually a charity drive. The game who reaches $10,000 will be the 9th game at EVO. The potential games are Arms, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Pokken Tournament, Killer Instinct, WindJammers, Skullgirls, Mortal Kombat XL, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and Nidhogg.
As it stands now, Pokken Tournament is leading the drive with $6,040 dollars. They are being followed by Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom with $4,520 dollars. If you want to contribute to getting your favorite game at Evo, visiting the generosity page here and prepare to donate to your game.
In addition to getting Evo gaming announcements, viewers were also greeted by Markman who came to present an Eliza character trailer for Tekken 7. For those who don’t know, Eliza is a vampire character who was originally in Tekken Revolution (2013). You practically had to grind enough blood seals in order to have Eliza as a playable character.
Eliza is available as DLC in Tekken 7. You will have the ability to play her before everyone else if you pre-order Tekken 7.
Savage Series Week 2 Results
I was under the impression other FGC news sites would have this covered, but I was sadly mistaken. As mentioned in a previous article, Savage Series is an online tournament circuit presented by LevelUp Live, the same guys responsible for Wednesday Night Fights, last year’s Capcom Cup, and Red Bull Battlegrounds to name a few,and Stream.me.
The online tournament circuit will run the entire month of January for the prize of paid for flight and hotel to EVO. In addition to the free trip, skate board decks are also available as prizes.
If you want to catch the final conclusion of Savage Series, please tune in to LevelUp’s stream.me stream. Lets pray that someone else besides a Laura main wins.
With that this is the end of our FGC mid-week Recap. Again, the goal with the mid-week recap is to give shine to other things going on in the community. If you have anything you would like to contribute, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Speaking of contacting me, shout outs to J.W for submitting the link to the Injustice 2 beta. He also submitted the image along with the link. Thanks again.
